JODHPUR: The Jodhpur police has arrested three persons and detained one in connection with the shootout at high court premises here. However, it is yet to get concrete clues about Kailash Jakhar’s whereabouts, the accused in abduction and murder of Bhanwari Devi. Jakhar managed to flee during the shootout. Two aides of the 15 assailants who had opened fire at the court premises here on Thursday have already been arrested by the police, while on Saturday one Ram Chandra was also arrested. The Jodhpur police has also detained one Ashok Bishnoi and are checking his credentials before arresting him.

Bhupendra Kumar Dak, police commissioner, asserted that the police have got some tip offs on the possible hideouts of Kailash Jakhar after an interrogation with the arrested accused. “The arrested accused have told us that that he (Kailash) could run towards Jodhpur (rural) areas, Barmer or Bikaner. Thus, we have conducted place-specific raids at almost a dozen places in Jodhpur and Barmer. A team has also been sent to Bikaner to conduct raids at the possible hideouts,” Dak added.

The primary investigations also suggested that the assailants had conducted recce during the appearances of Jakhar and Bishna Ram Bishnoi in the court.

“Usually during the proceedings of Bhanwari Devi murder case, there is always a huge police convoy. Thus the assailants planned their ‘act’ on a day when Bishnoi and Jakhar were produced alone in some other case when there was a lesser convoy,” Dak added.

Joint police teams of Jodhpur police commissionerate and rural police are carrying out intensive raids at all the possible hideouts of Jakhar and the assailants. “We have been focusing on the surrounding districts like Barmer, Bikaner etc. besides Jodhpur and are hopeful to apprehend some more persons by the night,” said a source.

According to sources the police have also rounded up some of Kailash Jakhar’s relatives. Meanwhile, the four-member team that was assigned the job to give recommendations and chalk out a plan to ensure such incidents should not be repeated has returned to Jaipur.

“We are studying the incidences and will submit our report to the state government. We have stressed on the need to give extra security to the challan guards, need of a system to have e-courts, especially for the high profile criminals where their appearance before the court could be done through video-conferencing,” said one of the members of the committee
