PANDIT SHIV KUMAR MESMERISED THE MUSIC LOVERS AT THE ‘MUSIC IN THE PARK’

The world renowned Indian classical Santoor player, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma mesmerised the music lovers at the ‘Music in the Park’ today at the Central Park in Jaipur. The event was organized by the Department of Tourism along with the Jaipur Development Authority and Spic Macay.
In his scintillating performance Pandit Shiv Kumar was accompanied by Shri Ram Kumar Mishra on tabla and his disciple, Shri Dilip Kale on Tanpura. Pandit Shiv Kumar started the evening with raag – ‘Marwa’ in ‘rupak taal’. Later he performed semi classical raag ‘Mishra Koshi’.
Born in Jammu to a singer, Pandit Uma Dutt Sharma. His father started teaching him vocals and tabla when he was just five. Pandit Uma Dutt Sharma did “extensive research” on the Santoor, and decided that his son should be the first musician to play Indian classical music on Santoor. So he started learning Santoor at the age of thirteen, and made his father’s dream come true. He gave his first public performance in Bombay in 1955.
