SSB TO STRENGTHEN BORDER SECURITY THROUGH SURVEILLANCE & PATROLING

New Delhi 20th Dec., 2012 ,the Sashastra Seema Bal, Guarding Indo-Nepal & Indo-Bhutan Border, celebrated its 49th Anniversary today at 25 th Bn Campus in Ghitorni. . R. P. N. Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Home Affairs graced this occasion as Chief Guest and took the salute of the colourful Parade this morning.

Speaking on this occasion, Sh. Singh applauded the role of SSB inguarding open and porous Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan Border. Heappreciated SSB efforts for launching new initiatives for effective monitoring and Integrated Border Management by introducing new technology and systems like IP Camera based surveillance, GPS linked Patrol Management System and river patrolling to check trans border crimes, smuggling, human trafficking, Narcotics Smuggling and anti-

national elements movement across the borders. He also appreciated the role of SSB for effective implementation of Perception Management and Civic Action Programmes in the North Eastern region and first to start rescue relief operations in Sikkim during the earth quake and land slide for which SSB has been declared as the “Best Disaster ManagementAgency” by the Sikkim State Govt.

He also appreciated the role of SSB for re- establishing peace in riot
affected Kokra -Jhar area of Assam . He also appreciated the role of SSB
for introducing GPS linked Patrol Management System for effective
border security management, which is very helpful is advance planning,
improving Co-ordination and best utilization of available manpower.
The introduction of I.P. camera based surveillance by SSB on
identified routes will set new mile-stones in border security. The SSB’s
new initiative of Patrolling on water bodies in bordering areas will be
very helpful to make check on smuggling and trans border crimes
through water ways. The Chief Guest distributed Police Medal for Gallantry
(Posthumously), President Police medals and Indian Police Medals for
distinguished and meritorious service to Officers and personnel of the
force. The decorated officers and personnel of the force are as under:-
Police Medal for Gallantry was awarded to CT/GD Subhash Kumar
Singh of 31st Bn Gosaigaon (posthumously) for showing exemplary
performance in saving others life from suspected NDFB militants. The
medal was received by his wife Smt. Prashil.

for meritorious services to India Police Medal.The DG SSB .Arun Chaudhary in his welcome speech thanked the Hon’ble Chief Guest for sparing his valuable moments for this occasion. Further he briefed about the new initiatives being taken by
SSB for effective border security and integrated border management. He further added that SSB is set to reduce the Inter-BOP distance to 3.5 Kms for making effective check on trans border crimes and anti-national activities. He also explained about the seizures and apprehensions made by SSB during the year for ensuring effective border security. .Chaudhary stated that new initiative are being taken for

effective redressal of grievances of force personnel through SMS based service. He further stated that in view of open, porous and Visa free borders it is very difficult to monitor the large scale movement of men and material taking place through these borders and to over come this problems IP based surveillance on important routes of INB will act as force – multiplier and will cover movement on border on 24 x 7 hours

basis..Arun Chaudhary also appreciatedthe efforts of MHA for timely clearance of SSB proposals and for extending full support towards ensuring effective border security by SSB in guarding Indo- Nepal and Indo- Bhutan borders
