BITS Pilani organise Conquest 2012 Delhi on 19 August 2012

Grand finale of the Conquest 2012, a startup challenge, organized by Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership at BITS Pilani , will be held at Sri Satya Sai Auditorium, Lodi Road, New Delhi on Sunday, 19th August 2012. Top ten finalists of the startup competition will present their ideas in the presence of a distinguished panel of judges. Over 500 students from premier engineering and management colleges of the country will participate in the event.
The competition seeks to identify the best business ideas and award  them with cash prizes and investment opportunities from angel investors around the globe. Conquest is considered as one of the most popular student organized startup events in India.
This year, over Rs. 4 crore is to be won as incentives by the 10 finalists, which includes  free website hosting and domain, free cloud telephony software for top three teams worth Rs. 24,000 each, Rs. 10 lakh seed fund for top 10 ideas and other incubation support  such as office space etc anywhere in India for select startups. Besides, there are cash prizes too for the winners and runners up.
The top four will get direct entry to the finals of Asia’s largest Business Plan Challenge, organized by TiE Asia in February 2013.
There has been overwhelming response to this year’s Conquest. In total, over 440 ideas were received on the event website by 30th May 2012. These included 8 entries from abroad.   Out of these, 35 teams were selected by a jury of entrepreneurs around the world. These 35 teams were chosen for mentorships in various cities of the country including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. Ideas from abroad were mentored through Skype video conferencing.
After mentorships these teams were asked to prepare a video presenting the prototypes which were examined by a panel of judges who selected the 10 best ideas and these are being showcased at the final event on 19th August.  The program will also include keynote speeches by prominent entrepreneurs.

Conquest 2012 has tied up with Freemont Partners, KAE Capital, Sequoia Capital, Inolyst, Aegis Centre for Entrepreneurship, Seedfund, The Hatch, Mumbai Angels, NEN, TiE and FL Ventures to provide these opportunities to its participants.
Speaking about the event, Conquest Coordinator  Mr Rohan Manchanda said, “ We are very excited to receive such a huge response to this year’s event. Further,  we feel it great to hold this event in the nation’s capital, Delhi. The team has worked tirelessly for over three months to present an event of international standard”.

Conquest is organized by students of Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, BITS Pilani every year since 2004 and has seen several business ideas start-up after participating in the competition. All 10 finalists of last year are in business now and one of them, GharPay Pvt. Ltd. based in Hyderabad, has crossed revenues of Rs. 1 crore.
